>>And as the final kicker -- guess who owns TIFF -- that's right
Adobe.<<
Not a real kicker. I was aware that Aldus and Adobe merged in 1994.
For me it was not important who owns the standard, instead I was
interested if the standard is in a flux (version related)
The TIFF 6.0 standard has been stabile since 1992 which gives me a warm
and fuzzy feeling.

My original comment was: "I would recommend to use TIFF 6.0 instead of
PDF"
So if you want to change it to: "I would recommend to use TIFF 6.0 or
PDF/A instead of PDF"
That would be fine with me. PDF's are designed for publishing and not
for long-term retrieval.
Meanwhile I do not have a choice in this matter, because in the State of
Florida all State Agencies are required to use TIFF 6.0 for any images
that are scanned and are being used as the Record Copy.

Dan I wish you good luck with your PDF/A implementation and hope
everything goes well.
