Hello All:

I have only been in the records profession for 3 years, I do have a college
degree (although not in MLS, or a related degree), having worked as a
corporate records manager with a heavy litigation load; even I find that
posting insulting.

Best Regards,

Brad

Subject: Job posting of interest

I thought some of you might find this job posting interesting. The site
lists various position listings in California but of particular note to me
was a listing from the City of Dana Point. For those who are not familiar
with the Southern California area, it is a rather small but wealthy area
with corresponding housing and cost of living prices. I find the salary
range somewhat out of touch ($4405.00 month at high end), considering they
are looking for "City Clerk Specialist" with the following qualifications:

http://californiacityclerks.org/Job_Opportunities.13.0.html

"Requires graduation from high school or completion of a GED supplemented by
college level coursework in records management or a related field; two years
of increasingly responsible administrative support and/or record keeping
experience, preferably including experience in a City Clerk's Office;
possession of or ability to obtain a valid California driver's license.
Certified Records Management (CRM) designation or willingness to obtain is
highly desirable."

Although I am not a CRM, after more than 16 years in the RIM field I am
fully aware of the challenges required to attain this designation and look
at this kind of job offering as rather insulting to the profession. I would
assume many of you may as well.

What this tells me is that the CRM designation and the requirements to
attain it are not understood by many of the organizations asking for it.
This is a situation that begs to be rectified, and looks like much more work
is needed from both ARMA and ICRM to continue to educate organizations and
agencies.
