Julie Fleming asked "If you could configure your E-Mail system [to] work in any manner that you desired, what would be your top priority requirements?"
1. A classification system that is a combination of automatic and manual. By "manual", I mean the automated system is trainable by end-users.
2. The automatic classification rules are easy to maintain.
3. The system will automatically convert a copy of the message--including the metadata--to PDF/A-1 (ISO 19005-1).
4. The system will automatically convert attachments to PDF/A-1, with a link (URI)between the message and the attachment(s). Assuming, of course, the attachments CAN be converted to PDF/A-1.
5. The system can automatically assign retention periods, using the automatic classification system.
6.. The system can maintain the converted messages and attachments in a trusted repository that also meets requirements for migration (e.g., ISO 14721:2003 "Space data and information transfer systems -- Open archival information system -- Reference model").
Quick thoughts; a few simple wishes ....
Best regards,
Fred Grevin
