War expose: Luck, then total dedication - Times Union

Nick Turse's doctoral thesis in sociomedical sciences at Columbia
University<http://www.timesunion.com/?controllerName=search&action=search&channel=local&search=1&inlineLink=1&query=%22Columbia+University%22>was
adrift; he felt lost in the National
Archives<http://www.timesunion.com/?controllerName=search&action=search&channel=local&search=1&inlineLink=1&query=%22National+Archives%22>and
decided to "throw myself on the mercy of an archivist."

It was the summer of 2001, and he was researching post-traumatic stress
among Vietnam veterans but had hit a dead end. The kindly archivist
suggested that Turse might want to take a look at 30 boxes of reports from
the Vietnam War Crimes Working
Group<http://www.timesunion.com/?controllerName=search&action=search&channel=local&search=1&inlineLink=1&query=%22Vietnam+War+Crimes+Working+Group%22>that
lined out-of-the-way shelves.
