Not that there needs to be sides, but I am also in agreement with BobD. The
freedom to innovate, to create, to think outside of the norm would only
serve to be stifled by causing ISO standards (i.e. best practices) to be
legislated and enforced. Shall we all then wear lavender and dye our hair
orange?

I am slightly disturbed by the "mainditory" and "legislated" picture this
entire discussion paints. We all know as records managers the strengths and
the weaknesses that we bring to the table. Or do we? Are we so unsure of
ourselves that we have to require support by mandate? Or is this the time to
educate? We are many things, but surly we are professionals. I don't know
about the rest of you, but I chose this field. I love my job and the
challenges it presents. I crave solving puzzles. What other field has so
many unsolved issues?

I keep thinking of lyics from Devo - something about move forward - move
ahead.
