Is there absolutely no chance of recovering the data?

If the device is physically lost or destroyed you are out of luck, but if
the device has been formatted, or even had a head crash there is always a
chance of recovery.

So presuming you have no chance of recovery quantifying the loss depends on
what point you are trying to make.

You could go either way, either it is a life changing experience, or an
opportunity for an overdue upgrade ;-)

I sincerely hope you lost more dancing baby videos than family photos.
