Earl,
I was previously a member of both organizations from 1985-1993. During that
time I owned a microfilm service bureau and found I was doing a lot of
records management consulting. My clients and I were benefited greatly by the
education/learning/networking I was able to do in both organizations.

My personal opinion: If you are primarily concerned with records
management in your current position, there is much you can learn by being active in
AIIM as to the new technology, vendors, what is on the horizon, etc. My AIIM
experience was a wonderful one.

I stay a member of ARMA as my focus on imaging documents has changed but I
still work very hard to stay abreast of all that is involved in imaging and
electronic document management. It is so varied and so exciting from 10 years
ago. I love it. And, today companies are very interested whereas 10 years
ago, until O.J. Simpson;s trial, they just said "Huh?"

If you can join both I encourage you to do so.
