<why would you *not* use document management software?>
When we implemented our DMS long ago, a lot of people resented the new
"burden" being imposed on them.
- They liked the freedom of storing their information wherever they
wanted (department network, hard drive, floppy, etc.).
- They thought having to profile a document was too slow and a waste of
time, and didn't like being forced to select from limited choices in
fields like "document type."
These objections only reinforced our belief that we needed a system to
store all those files in a controlled, secure central location, and to
force our users to provide enough profile information so we could start
to benefit from some structure, document sharing, accessibility,
synergy, fewer instances of reinventing the wheel...
