Actually, there's a wave of condominium apartment buyers hitting Manhattan. They often buy sight unseen and unbuilt, as speculation. These buyers are from Ireland, where the cost of real estate and the rise of the Euro make New York City / Manhattan prices look good.

Yes, but New York is one of the most expensive cities in the world to live 
in.  I would imagine that a half decent house in the inner city would be 
well over a million bucks  In mid-USA it could be the equivalent salary of 
$80 - 100K.
