Thanks for all the great online and offline comments and responses, and
as a long-time proponent of microfilm, I'm glad to see others still
using it. I agree that certain records ought to be filmed but like
others, am a little concerned about the availability of film, vendors,
and equipment over time. I'm also old enough to remember 8" and 5-1/4"
floppy diskettes, 8-track tapes, reel-to-reel tape, audio cassettes, and
betamax videocassettes, for example, which have all gone by the
wayside... not to mention 45's, 78's, and 33's (those are records and
albums for those too young to remember--used to play music back in the
day).

As we look at building out our program here at Colonial, microfilming
some records still makes sense to me but it "may" be a tough selling
point. I couldn't attend the last ARMA conference in Baltimore, does
anyone know if there were any microfilm (or combo film/imaging)
vendors/service bureaus exhibiting there? I haven't started to look
yet, but it may be difficult finding local service bureaus to film our
records.

Thanks.
Earl
