1) If you have a position to fill that could be performed by someone with
an MLS degree, please post it with the career counseling office of the
nearest school of library and information science.
2) If you have short-term work that could be performed by someone in
library school, please post it as an internship with the nearest school of
library and information science. Students will often even do internships for
free.
By letting schools of library and information science know that there are
jobs out there for their graduates, they will hire adjunct faculty. When
they see a steady need for these jobs, they will hire full-time faculty.
This will go further toward helping the growth of records management in
graduate schools than any other activity. ARMA chapters could help by
creating a job bank or an internship bank among members and then match up
positions with students from local graduate schools. Internships will
interest students who are curious, and would like to try out records
management.
