The secrets of Bad Arolsen Documents housed in the massive Holocaust archive
are now only beginning to be understood
For six years, Paul Shapiro lobbied furiously — in Washington and across
Europe — to open six warehouses in central Germany where a huge store of
Second World War-era documents remained under lock and key.

The Bad Arolsen archive had been assembled by the International Tracing
Service (ITS) to understand what happened to 17.5 million people victimized
by the Nazis. Its records spoke to the fate of Jews, slave labourers,
political prisoners, homosexuals, Gypsies.
