Canada Deleting files a costly job, expert warns Law exempts data from
records rules

The RCMP is refusing to say how much it will cost to destroy all copies of
the federal long gun registry as required by the Conservative government's
proposed law shutting down the contentious database.

The bill to end the requirement to register long guns introduced this week
requires that the Commissioner of Firearms "shall ensure the destruction as
soon as feasible of all records" in the registry of non-restricted firearms.
