Simone,

A work-process analysis is not a substitute for a records inventory. The records inventory records what information and product is the result of the work-process analysis, and records it in detailed ways necessary to understanding the holdings of your organization. The work-process analysis is important in its own right as a means of understanding the process behind the product and which parties bear responsibility for creating or adding to the record. You need both.

Sincerely,
Elizabeth

Subject: [RM] Work process analysis vs. Records inventory

Morning All,

Has anyone on the list considered or conducted a work process analysis in lieu of a records inventory? If so, was the result satisfactory? Did you experience greater buy-in from participants?

For those who have considered and decided not to what were the determining factors?
