This, of course, results in a myriad of difficulties for the patients.  When I was in my senior year of high school, our family doctor ran off to (then)Persia with someone else's wife and destroyed all his records before going.  Among the variety of problems it posed for my family, my brother and I had to get ALL our vaccinations again (childhood, smallpox, etc) before we could register at college.  It was very painful and costly.
