Peggy Draeger, a facilities employee at Huntington Bancshares Inc.,
didn't imagine her love of Abraham Lincoln would come into focus
conducting inventory of bank vaults. But when employees found a
long-forgotten box, Ms. Draeger sat on the floor and pulled out the
last-known signature of the Great Emancipator—on a check.
Ms. Draeger's discovery didn't stop there. She pulled from the box
checks from 23 other presidents and more from famous authors,
composers and signatories to the Declaration of Independence. Included
was a check from Thomas Edison for $100; from Thomas Jefferson for
$22.69; and from Charles Dickens for £21.
