For example, Banking regulations require that banks keep a record of what
rates are offered on what products through all forms of advertising.
(I don't recall what the actual retention periods are - and they may have
changed since I worked in that area.) 
Some rates, (such as mortgages), change daily, so if rates are advertised on
a bank's website, some record would need to be kept of such on a daily
basis.

Information published on internal websites may need to be captured as well,
if they are the documents of record for the entity.

Without knowing what industry we are discussing, a detailed answer is not
possible, but the primary answer is yes, there are legal reasons for
capturing specific content of an enterprise's website. (internal and
external)

Have any of you been advised that there is (or are) legal reason(s) for you
to capture a specific website at your enterprise?  Not for historical
reasons but for legal reasons.  Not technical solutions; just why.  On or
