I've always thought that the use of the min/max retention period does
nothing but confuse the end user. I much prefer seeing retention periods
that show a single time such as Life of asset + x years. or EOY + x years.
the Min/Max should be used only in determining the final retention period.
In many cases the minimum period is found in law or statute. The
organization can either accept that period of time as their retention or
they decide, based upon the analysis of their needs for the records (admin,
ops, financial, legal and historical) , that they will keep the records for
a longer period of time. INMSHO providing users with a min/max retention
period allows for an inconsistent application of the retention. Employee A
may decide to keep Record X for the minimum, Employee B decides to keep
the same record for the maximum and Employee C keeps it somewhere in
between. Now how does that represent a consistent application of retention?
