Susan Carlson asked (on behalf of a colleague):

"He is looking for a checklist or advice on managing records of a closing hospital? His university is responsible for all of the records and assets of the hospital that is closing. Does anyone know of any checklist? I did suggest checking the AHIMA web site and also with the Board of Medical Examiners in his state. Any suggestions would be most appreciated and I will be happy to pass them on to him."

Susan, refer him to the free research report from the ARMA International Educational Foundation (AIEF), "Mergers, Acquisitions, Divestitures and Closures - Records and Information Management Checklists" at this link:

http://www.armaedfoundation.org/pdfs/2011_Rev_RIM_Checklists.pdf

While not specific to hospitals, it contains excellent discussions, information, and checklists for the general situation.

This is only one of the research reports available free-of-charge from the AIEF website. To see them all, visit http://www.armaedfoundation.org/ and click on "Research Reports" from the selections along the left side of the screen.
