DESCRIPTION OF WORK: 
Manager of the Western Regional Archives (WRA) is responsible for administering a specialized archives collection located in Asheville. Responsibilities include delivering public services and outreach, supervising the center's search room, collection development, arrangement and description of holdings, supervising employees, and managing fiscal resources. This archivist position represents the Office of Archives and Records, Division of Historical Resources, Office of Archives and History and the Department of Cultural Resources in carrying out a variety of regional and community services and programs. Occasional overnight travel or Saturday work is required. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES / COMPETENCIES:
Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of archival management; demonstrated knowledge of EAD, MARC, & Dublin Core metadata; working knowledge of archival appraisal, processing, conservation & preservation methods; classification procedures & file naming protocols; knowledge of State Archives online catalog preferred. Working knowledge of N.C. government, history & culture reference sources preferred. Ability to conduct research using primary & secondary resources & to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Demonstrated ability to communicate with a variety of audiences and to establish & maintain working relationships with potential donors, individuals & organizations & other government agencies. 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: 
Bachelor's degree in history, public history, public administration, or a related social science discipline and one year of archival or records management experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
