Does anyone else struggle reading FEMA flood zone maps? Online maps are
unwieldy and don't correspond to street maps, making it hard to locate your
storage vendor on the flood map. What's the secret to easy-to-read
manipulable FEMA flood maps?

With repect to NFPA 232, I ask vendors what the burnthrough time is on
their (fireproof) doors. NFPA 232 section 6.10.2 specifies doors have the
same burnthrough rate as the walls of the vault, either 4 hours or 6 hours.
Vendors i inspect always have a vault that stores digital records, in
addition to a paper storage warehouse.

I ask storage vendors if they are a member of PRISM, Association of
Commercial Record Centers (ACRC) and/or Facility Management Association
(IFMA).

I keep the ideal answers to all my inspection questions to myself. The
vendors have always understood my questions during my inspection, I
sometimes need to rephrase.

Where I work, procurement staff research the financial soundness
of potential new or renewing vendors, structure RFI/RFP requirments
provided by the records manager into their procurement-y templates,
structure the scoring of RFP submissions and perform all RFP communications
with vendors because the records manager is cut off from communicating
directly with vendors at some point in the RFP process. I wouldn't dream of
having procurment staff conduct the storage facility inspection.
