I don't work for IBM, but another possible motive for slapping patents on
anything that moves may be part of a "conceptual cold-war stockpile" as
noted by Yahoo's suit against Facebook.  The strategy resembles nothing so
much as "grab everything and sort it out later.  Maybe much, much later."
