Taxonomies and Thesauri: Tools. Tips. Terminology.
Monday, May 14, 5:30-8 pm
Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory
Building 1, Howard County Room 3
Laurel, MD

So, a taxonomist is someone who stuffs dead animals for a living, right? Wrong-a taxonomist is actually someone who creates any type of controlled vocabulary. To learn more about what taxonomists (and not taxidermists) do, please join the SLA Maryland Chapter for Taxonomies and Thesauri: Tools. Tips. Terminology. at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory on Monday, May 14!

Gail Rayburn, a Taxonomist for the ITSD Information Group of the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, will be the presenter for the evening. Ms. Rayburn will provide a presentation on important taxonomy terms, taxonomy structures, controlled vocabulary, enterprise taxonomies, and more!

A "Taste of the Mediterranean" buffet dinner (including a meat lasagna and a vegetarian baked penne pasta pomodoro), will be served along with sides of green beans, tossed garden greens, and fresh baked garlic bread. Assorted sodas, iced tea, coffee, decaf coffee, and hot tea, along with a variety of dessert options, will be served. Parking is convenient and free.

Word and letter based icebreakers and raffle items (including Scrabble and its "little brother," Bananagrams) will also be a part of the evening-so come out and show your colleagues your favorite seven-letter words.

For more information on the program and to register, visit the SLA Maryland Chapter website: http://maryland.sla.org/taxonomies

Questions? Please contact Annette Haldeman, President-Elect/Program Chair, SLA Maryland Chapter: [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>
