I read an interesting opinion about requiring employees to divulge
passwords, which went something like this: any employee who will divulge
the password to their personal account will also be likely give up their
work password, so the only good reason to ask an employee for their
password is to weed out those who are unsuitable for employment.

Online Privacy Laws Can Cause Discovery Woes

Membership in social media apparently has its privileges. But could
protecting employee passwords turn out to be a pricey proposition for
employers when it comes to e-discovery?

A new law was passed in Maryland preventing employers from requiring
current and prospective employees to disclose passwords and user names to
online social media and communications sites — a practice until now
allowed
 in every state.
