I read your reply and let out a deep sigh. Unfortunately that sometimes is the attitude from Management across the board. RIM professionals do always find themselves educating their peers and management about the importance of managing their information as an asset. Records and Records Management are sometimes under valued because their roles in business are often not understood in the grand scheme of things.
Maybe because we don't generate revenue in the normal business sense and we are considered more as overhead. (File cabinets, Scanners, Supplies, etc.) that must be why the manager considered RIM functions as a luxury.
I sometimes have felt me and my peers efforts were unrecognized on a daily basis. But we become everyone's savior when information is lost or litigation comes to the forefront. That's when we as professionals shine!
You have done your research and you seem to have discovered early on the misconceptions and attitudes that often hinder RIM professionals. But fear not! There are many companies who DO value RIM and know the role and value they play in everyday business functions. It's really a vital function in business even if not realized by many.
