First: August 17, 1961, an open-air theater in Evansville, Indiana - Jerry Van Dyke opened for Ricky Nelson, the reason I was there. My mother drove and attended the show with us. My friend Tooter screamed her head off non-stop the entire time. I didn't understand that then, nor do I now.
Last: July 8, 2008, Charlottesville Pavilion, Phil Lesh & Friends. Had to stroll straight down the middle of Shakedown Street to get in. Lots of trippy car stickers, dancing and great fun!
I'm not counting music festivals, rock operas, spontaneous jams, or the accomplished guy on the corner playing the sax like nobody's business!
