As RMs, whether you're a practitioner or a practitioner-educator who uses
case studies or hypotheticals to highlight "what would you do as the on
site RM," you know the importance of distinctions between various terms of
art in the profession and precision in wording. Laypersons and
non-practitioners sometimes blur distinctions or conflate records or
archives terms and concepts, for various reasons. I've seen considerable
confusion in reading online commentary and general public comment boards
about Federal and Presidential records lifecycle issues over the last 20
years.

NARA's RM guidance site worth bookmarking, if you're interested in Fedland
records policy issues.
