The definition of a record depends upon your line of business. One also
has to make sure that they consider the ISO differences between a "form"
or "document" and a "record."

The quick version. A form is a blank document or tool that can be used
to complete a business purpose, usually having a version number/revision
date attached to it. Once that form is manipulated (or "filled out", it
then becomes a record - because it is fulfilling some sort of business
purpose.)

Definitions can be very long or very short depending on what kind of
work you do. It may also depend on who the custodian of the record is,
and what the record will be used to accomplish (within the scope of that
business purpose mentioned above).

Subject: Definition of a Record

I know this is really back to basics. I am working with a group to put
a Records Retention Policy in place and would like to start by defining
exactly what is a record. Does anyone have a good, comprehensive
definition I could use?
