The first move involved a Moving and Storage firm as the old vendor. It
had been used for a few years prior to my coming on board as the first
Waterworks Records Manager and establishing a formal program. We
finally agreed with the old vendor that it was possible for the boxes to
have been retrieved by us (neither they nor we had any formal withdrawal
or delivery procedure) and not returned. We found three of them in
offices, but the other five were never found. We still list them as
"missing" in our inventory as they had very long retention periods.
The second move involved a firm that we had contracted with after
establishing a formal program. They finally admitted, in writing, that
they "lost" the box and we listed it as missing until the retention ran
out.
