I am in the process of reviewing over 50,000 feet of inactive records.
Their description is usually cryptic at best (as they were given over to
us from another organization who had finished using them and didn't want
to pay to store them any longer). Without having to look into each box to
make an appraisal decision, are there any guides on statistical sampling
where one could review a percentage with the same description and make a
reasonable assumption about the series (keep or destroy), without legal
repercussions? Are there any legal precedents?

Any thoughts and recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Stephen Cohen, Records Manager
