Atle, I plan to sign up later today. It sounds like a nice compliment to
the other resources I rely on, such as this listserv.

My take on the intellectual property issue: I, personally, do not see AIIM
starting this community as essentially setting up a barrel, then asking us
to jump in, while all along having a nefarious plan to then shoot us all and
eat us for lunch. Call me naive if you like, I've been called worse. I
prefer to operate on the assumption (based on personal experience with AIIM,
and good people like Atle) that their intentions are far more noble than
they are nefarious or underhanded.

When I post something that resembles a professional opinion here, there, on
Twitter, wherever, it is with the intention of sharing, collaborating and
hopefully contributing to the advancement of the profession (or at least
supporting the common good). I do not worry so much about someone "stealing
my idea", if I did, I simply wouldn't post it here, or there, or anywhere.
I would write a book. Or write an article for a reputable trade source.
Much easier to protect stuff I intend to protect when it isn't set free to
roam the Wild Wild West.

All of that said, I agree, read agreements, all the way through. The
arrangement of language may, or may not, be intentional, and may or may not
be overly restrictive and/or one-sided. That is up to the signer to decide
for themselves.

Happy Thursday to all!

Julie
