Hi Hugh,

I agree that cloud backups, in many of cases, will not deliver significant
savings and can add undesirable risk.  However, as Gordy notes, there are
some applications where, when done right with the right vendor, cloud
backup can make sense.

That said, I see more of my clients moving from tape to disk for their
backups, not to a cloud.  Disk can offer the same security features of
tape, but less labor and distributed costs (e.g. tape rotation, offsite
storage, etc.).  It is also often faster to restore from disk when
necessary.

And I'll add, I, personally, get A LOT of value from LinkedIn  Of course
the breach was unfortunate, and learning that they may not have sufficient
oversight over their systems through accountable and appropriate executives
was disappointing, but I'm not kicking them to the curb.  I suppose value
from LinkedIn will vary depending on who you are, what you do, and how you
choose to use LinkedIn.  The way I use it works for me.  I may just change
my password more often than before.  :)
