Sherry,

Good afternoon. We run a conversion services bureau which still uses the B&H Spectrum scanners; however we still run them on Windows XP workstations. It is not just the drivers, but also the fact that the Spectrum scanners are designed with the older technology of the SCSI interface (card and cable). Windows 7 does not support SCSI. To my knowledge there is no way to successfully run the Spectrums with a Windows 7 client.

What we use now to replace our Spectrums or when we need to run a scanner with a Windows 7 client are the Kodak Ngenuity scanners which have done an extremely good job for us (Kodak financial issues and status aside). We are looking at future scanner options for down the road if needed.

The issue we have running the Spectrums on the Windows XP workstation is software compatibility for direct release into our image processing software that we use post scanning (image clean up; OCR; indexing, etc.). The way we worked around that is that we released the images from the Spectrums to designated network folders and then electronically import the TIFF images into the image processing software from the application itself.

We have some developers that have recently written a neat little application to monitor the designated folders and automatically batch and import the images into the image processing software for us.

Where there is a will, there is a way.

Sincerely,

Curtis Welch
