No disrespect intended, but Definitions 1, 2, 3 and 5 are essentially the
same words used to define records management over the years... a few new
pieces appended here and there, but the same thing all over really.

As for #4, that reads more like a marketing plan designed to sell the
concept to law firms than a definition to me.

I understand that some proponents of the concept feel strongly that this is
the "Soup de Jour" for gaining control of Information Assets within an
organization and taking a broader perspective on how that control is
achieved, but for me, it's the same thing only different.

Remember in the mid 1990s when we were told that ELECTRONIC records
management was DIFFERENT that records management? And remember when we told
those people that it really wasn't, it was only the formats that were
different, NOT the practices?? Well, to quote Yogi Berra, "It's like deja
vu all over again".

The requirements for effectively managing information have been changing
and growing to a broader realm for decades... I think we ALL know that and
to the degree our respective organizations need to adopt new practices and
draw in others to assist in developing a framework to be MORE effective
within our organizations, it will continue to morph until it best suits
what we need to achieve.

But putting lipstick on a pig doesn't make it anymore kosher.
