Hi everyone,
Following Rich's point on establishing usage patterns, I thought this report
from IDC might prove interesting... Full Disclosure: Iron Mountain sponsored
this research and resulting research paper.

IDC did some research on using RM best practices to optimize SharePoint,
asking 100 respondents from large companies in a variety of industries the
"what's" and "why's" behind their move to SharePoint. A big takeaway was
that organizations are looking to employ SharePoint to solve classic RM
challenges in addition to enabling collaboration and productivity, as well
as supporting compliance and legal requirements.

The most popular goals (respondents could choose more than one):
- Improve internal collaboration and knowledge management and enhance
employee productivity - 56 percent of respondents
- Use as a content management application to enhance control and governance
of electronic records - 42 percent
- Enable consistent enforcement of records management and information
life-cycle policies across digital content and its paper-based counterparts
- 38 percent
- Realize cost savings and lower total cost of ownership for collaboration
tools - 36 percent
- Provide a platform for information sharing and collaboration with business
partners - 32 percent

To Rich's point, governance and retention are top considerations.
