I went to a conference at the Greater New York City Area chapter of ARMA
earlier this year, as did at least one person who regularly chimes in on
this listserv (hi Fred!). I can't attest to the accomodations that the
local chapter provided its attendees, but considering that one of the
tables was staffed by a Canadian firm, I can imagine that they gave them,
at the very least, decent compensation. The conference had several vendor
booths, a lunch break and a networking reception with food and drink, and
even a raffle with prizes (I actually won something in it). In short, it
was a great experience. From the reports of people who have been doing this
for longer than I have (some possibly for longer than I've been alive!), it
sounds like the national ARMA has fallen into a sort of state of disarray.
That's a damn shame because it sounds like it used to be as fun as the
local conference that I went to.

The activist in me is asking, "What can *WE* do to improve the situation?"
I'm not nearly as equipped to answer that question as some others here, but
I encourage all of you to ask yourself that and come up with answers.
