Fred,

We are looking for an end-user microfiche/microfilm reader with interchangeable carriers. The media is outsourced for conversion and the quality control work will be completed in-house. US Davis is not an option.

Thanks,

Hi Al,

Can you be a little more specific about the type of equipment you need?

For example, do you want END-USER equipmentý (i.e., readers and/or reader-printers) or do you want PRODUCTION equipment (i.e., cameras, densitometers, duplicators, film processors, film-to-digital scanners, or digital-to-film devices)?

What formats are you usingý? You mention "microfiche and/microfilm"; do you have both microfiche AND roll film? What about aperture cards (I note you're from a Municipal Utility District, and these often used aperture cards for their engineering drawings)?

Finally, how much "microfiche and/or microfilm" do you have, and how often do you need to use it? My point is that you have occasionalý need to view and/or print standard microfiche and/or roll microfilm, you might check the UC Davis Library, which probably still has a microforms reading room with the equipment. OTOH, if you have a considerable quantity and frequent use, a more cost-effective solution might well be converting the images to digital raster images (with OCR applied) and loading the digital images to your electronic document management system.

Best regards,

Fred

Folks,

Would anyone have some suggestions on where to rent or purchase microfiche and/or microfilm reader equipment in the Sacramento, CA area?

Thanks,
