Access and the ARMA International Educational Foundation are proud to
announce the 2017 recipients of the Access Leadership Scholar Program: Brett
Wise of North Carolina and James Carpenter of Florida.
In June 2017, both organizations extended the successful Access Leadership
Scholars Program, committing to another three years and $25,000 with awards
to be made in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

Access, a leading member of the records and information management industry
has a clearly stated vision: To exceed the expectations of our clients,
company and community every day. The vision of the ARMA International
Educational Foundation (AIEF/the Foundation) is to be recognized as a
leading resource for facilitating research and scholarship in records and
information management.

Brett Wise currently serves as the Director of Records and Information
Management (RIM) at the American Board of Pediatrics. He is enrolled in the
Harvard University Extension School, working on a Masters in Liberal Arts
with a focus on Information Management Systems. He is receiving a $6,000 award.

Brett states: “This generous award will ease the financial challenges that
come with being a mid-career Information Management professional and student
– balancing graduate courses, a full-time position and professional
commitments, as well as raising a family. The degree that this scholarship
goes towards will allow me to further develop and apply my professional
knowledge and skills within the field of RIM, especially in the broad area
of Information Technology which plays an ever-increasing foundational role
for our profession. Thank you to the Foundation and Access!”

James Carpenter is a Records Assistant at the law firm of Stroock & Stroock
& Lavan LLP. He is enrolled in the Masters in Archives and Records
Management Program at San Jose State University. He is receiving a $2,000 award.

James says: “Receiving this award has only enhanced my motivation to
continue to pursue my goal of obtaining a CRM designation and a successful
career as an RIM professional…thanks to AIEF, Access, the scholarship
committee, San Jose State University, the MARA program, and all my fellow
classmates and professors who have offered their unwavering support and
guidance. A very special thank you to Dr. Lisa Daulby, Professor, SJSU
iSchool and to Irene Oria, Special Counsel, Stroock.”

Announcing the 2017 awards, Access Chief Executive Officer Rob Alston said,
“Access is thrilled that the scholarship program has elicited so much
interest and attracted so many highly qualified applicants. We are proud to
be part of the ongoing growth of the RIM profession and to be able to
support RIM professionals like Brett and James as they advance their
careers. Access looks forward to continuing to foster and support the RIM
community for many years to come.”

Mike Smith, Chair of the Board of Trustees for the Foundation stated that
“The 14 applications received in this fourth year of the Access Leadership
Scholars Program make it clear that the Program is meeting a real need in
the RIM community. Recipients represent a broad spectrum of industries and
organizations, including the American Board of Pediatrics, a major law firm,
Phillips 66, Booz Allen Hamilton, Sealy & Co., Nova Southeastern University,
and Houston Community College. This program has enabled larger scholarships,
making a real difference in the upward mobility for talented people held
back by the lack of a degree.”
