The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) will be open for
researchers and for museum visitors tomorrow, June 12, 2018, the day of the
NHL Capitals Stanley Cup victory parade. Access to the National Archives
Museum is on the Constitution Avenue side of the building, with entrances
near 7th and 9th Street, with walk up visitors using the one to the West.

The Caps parade is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. at 23rd Street and will
proceed down Constitution Avenue to 7th Street. A Caps rally is scheduled
for 3 p.m. on the National Mall at 7th Street. If you are in Washington
planning to visit our Museum, be aware that the area around the building
will be filled with crowds. The research room will be open, as well as
well as the Museum. Entry to the research center through the Pennsylvania
Avenue business entrance pictured in my last blog post.

As are a number of NARA employees, I'm a longtime Capitals fan. On a
personal note, I saw T. J. Oshie and Tom Wilson with the Stanley Cup at a
restaurant/bar by happenstance Friday evening, when I went to Arlington,
Virginia, not far from downtown Washington, to buy a book. (Sometimes, it
pays for me to be the book nerd I am.) Threaded tweets with my photos here:

National Archives building "rocking the red," lit with red lights the
evening of Game 5, which I saw when I worked a late evening Thursday public
program in NARA's McGowan Theater.

And a professional note, as well. Benn Ferriero, a cousin of Archivist
David S. Ferriero, played in the NHL and AHL in recent years, including
with the San Jose Sharks. David often quotes Wayne Gretzky's famous line
about skating where the puck is going to be, especially in the context of
modernizing records management and archives access. This from Benn
Ferriero also is good on strategic thinking generally, in one of the 2011
National Archives transformation posts at AOTUS blog:

If Listserv subscribers are in DC tomorrow to do research or visit the
National Archvies museum, we welcome you, as always--just plan ahead taking
traffic and transportation challenges into account. This goes for any
planned travel in the downtown area near the Mall for much of the business
day. More info on DC street closures tomorrow here:
