Program: Many companies offer the opportunity to store records in the Cloud, offering cost savings, access to greater technical resources and options and relief from technical support burdens, but also loss of control over what technologies are used, where records are stored and even what is done to them. The InterPARES Trust, a worldwide collaboration of hundreds of experts, is investigating a variety of issues related to trusting records stored in the Cloud. It has teamed up with the Object Management Group (OMG) to develop requirements and specifications for preserving records in the cloud so that they remain trustworthy. Ken will discuss the InterPARES/OMG findings and its implications for all of us.

Speaker: Ken Thibodeau, Independent Thinker and former Senior Guest Scientist, Information Technology Laboratory at National Institute of Standards and Technology and research leader in this collaboration, is an internationally known expert in electronic records. He had a long career at NARA, retiring in 2011 as Director of the Center for Advanced Systems and Technology. He also served as director of the DoD Records Management Task Force that produced the DoD standard for records management applications, and as chief of the NIH Records Management Branch. He has received the Archivist of the United States Lifetime Achievement Award and the Emmett Leahy Award.

Menu: Dinner will be your choice at the restaurant of Lasagna, Fettuccine Alfredo, Gnocchi Tomato Basil, Penne Sausage Arugula, or Eggplant Parm. A cash bar will be available.
