The City Clerk’s Office strategic plan for 2018-2022 describes the city’s documentary legacy as “fragmented and scattered. Few records survive from the bulk of mayoral administrations and … [i]rreplaceable documents have been misplaced, discarded or stolen.” The strategic plan follows the hiring of the city’s first archivist in memory, Nicholas Hartley, almost two years ago, and council’s vote last week to establish a Records Management Division.
