I have read several news articles (and one posting in RAIN) about shredding in which they say shredders can be purchased for as little as $25. I purchased one (Fellowes) for $75 and "killed" it after shredding one standard storage box full of paper. The instructions said capacity was 80 shreds per hour (with a specified number of sheets). It was completely non-functioning after shredding one box full and this is just home use. It is misleading to suggest that businesses can purchase a $25 shredder. I'm sure the ones used by vendors in the business of shredding are much more powerful and large scale. The shredder in our office was approximately $150; we shred sparingly. Any comments about a sturdy and reliable shredder are welcome (brand, model, cost). Cross cut is preferable to strip cut but it would be nice if the pieces could be smaller like confetti.
