It is a disgrace and I agree something needs to be done and soonest. So, as you suggested, I called a couple of the candidates on the list you provided, even though I'm not sure any of them are my favorite. They were all extremely friendly and courteous. But I did find it strange that when I said "I am calling to support Don Saklad's efforts to change the way the BPL works..." I'd next hear a deafening silence and then a dial tone. Now, I am not sure if it was something I said. Or maybe it was that my attempt at sounding like a Bostonian just wasn't very convincing. You know, that special twang in the accent that only a New Englander can produce. I have to admit that it is extremely difficult for a Texan (or is that a Virginian,, Kansan or Southern Californian - you have to excuse me, I moved so many times, can't tell what I am any more) to produce the inflection correctly. But at least you can't say I didn't give it that old (business school) college try. So I wish you luck in your endeavor to get those horrible and dreadful people at the Boston Library (including the Radical Research Librarians) to shape up or ship out. Keep up the good work. For what it is worth you can count on my support from down here in wonderful SoCal. Speaking of wonderful, it's off to another round of golf at the weekly Hacker's Club outing here in sunny and beautiful San Diego. By the way, did I say I really hate paper - wait, oh no, isn't that Whitaker's line? Must be rubbing off on me... Bruce L.
