Hi Debbie, I suggest you contact the corporate archives section of the Society of American Archivists for input on identifying archival records of corporate entities. Companies like Ford, Wells Fargo, etc. have a wealth of experience on how to maximize the value of the records you are finding. I work for a design firm that is over 40 years old. I am purging files that are 15-40 years old which have never been purged, as no record retention policy existed until last month. For now I have put aside what I consider to be either valuable local history, or interesting corporate history. Our marketing department has kept some of the corporate information all along, but of course what I find is infinitely more interesting! So far I have two correspondence size boxes tucked away. Items vary from photos, sketches, notebooks, hand-written notes, and so on. I know these items may seem minor to those of you who deal with very old items and address complex preservation issues each day. Still, it would be nice to know how to start to identify, catalog and store the items in a way that will make sense to someone who will come after me.... Thanks for any help. I find this list to be an invaluable source of information! Deborah K. Wolf Records Manager S W B R A R C H I T E C T S 387 E.
