For what it is worth, when I attended graduate school for archives and public records management in the 1980s one of the first things imparted to me in my first Records and Information Management course, led by a former U.S. Archivist, was that the management of copies, duplicates, including security copies, and the equipment upon which they were reproduced was an inherent and vital part of any Records and Information Management program. NO! NO! Inside the box. One of the fundamental requirements of a well organized RIM program is the management of copying equipment and its use." I'm curious as to how many of us in Listserv land actually have included guidelines/standards/procedures, etc. on the management of copying equipment in your records programs? I must admit that I don't now, and have never had any RM-related materials on copying equipment and usage in past RM positions I've held. While I respect Mr. Benedon (we've met once, but I mostly know of him by his impressive reputation), I don't know of any RIM programs that includes something like this. It's got me to thinking enough so that I've just added this item to my "to do" list for 2011. Thanks. Earl Pipeline Records and Information Management Excellence...
