The Open Classes program at the San Jose State University School of
Information is open for enrollment. The fall semester runs from August 21
through December 10, 2018; however, some courses are shorter in duration. 


What is the Open Classes program?

Through the Open Classes program
<> , non-iSchool
students can enroll in the same master's-level courses offered in the Master
of Library and Information Science
is>  and Master of Archives and Records Administration
ra>  degree programs and earn college credit on their San Jose State
University transcript. Course selection varies each session, and courses are
offered on a space available basis.


Who should enroll?

The program is aimed at information professionals as a continuing education
opportunity for exploring new topics, expanding skills, and building
knowledge in the information field. Enrollment

to everyone who holds a bachelor's degree from any regionally accredited
institution in any discipline with a GPA of at least 3.0 at the bachelor's
degree institution. 


What courses are available?

Fall 2018 course topics include: Cybersecurity, Design Thinking, Scratch,
XML, Text/ Data Mining, Health Informatics, Big Data Analytics, Managing
Photographic Collections, Digital Forensics, Collection Management, Grant
Writing, Readers Advisory Genres and Techniques, Medical Librarianship, and

What are the fees?

Course fees are $474 (USD) per unit, and courses range from one to three
units. Fees are subject to change. Please note fees are due within 21 days
of registration for fall semester. Students who pay income tax in the United
States may be able to take advantage of the IRS Lifelong Learning Tax
Credit, which can help reduce the amount of income taxes owed by receiving a
credit for educational expenses.


How do I enroll?

and a staff member will contact you to confirm enrollment. The form is
currently open and will close on August 10 at 5 p.m. Pacific Time. Courses
are offered on a space available basis and fill up quickly. Early enrollment
is encouraged for best course selection.
