Mike, I actually don't agree with this. In my experience, many IT
managers and staff are running scared, humbled by a dot com crash,
outsourcing, repeated obsolescence of hard sought skills, etc....

While its important to recognize cultural barriers (which records
managers also suffer from), there is a greater willingness to work
towards common goals among the IT folks I know than ever before.
Replacing the old religion that only the code masters know and see all,
now I see an emerging recognition that working together to meet
stakeholder needs not only better serves the organization as a whole,
but also tends to improve one's job security.

I think arrogance is less a problem now than the need to educate and be
educated. Often that education starts with a recognition of our
respective professional goals, where those coincide, and where they may
present barriers. Because records managers tend to have more of a
technical background than IT folks have a RIM background, I really think
the time is ripe for us to be key facilitators in this educational
effort. And, I think our IT partners are more willing to listen than
ever before.
