Folks, some points of confusion - I've never thought of retention
schedules as search tools, except in the crudest sense of the word. They
are policies used to apply retentions. Similarly, is there any reason
why a big bucket could not document the individual record series
utilized to comprise the "bucket"? Is this really a record series of its
own, or simply a tool to aggregate different record series to facilitate
the application of retention in a given circumstance? One could even
potentially mix and match the components of the bucket to meet
particular needs, depending on relative risk, costs, etc... It seems to
me that the retention schedule and the "big bucket" would work best if
they were really looked at as 2 distinct entities.

Having said that, it seems insane to apply "big buckets" on anything
beyond a work unit or relatively low organizational level; certainly not
on an enterprise level. It also really seems to be something useful in
managing "unstructured" records, such as e-mail. Larry, I join Sharon -
a lot of retentions can be applied via a structured business process.
