A mid-afternoon reception would be nice -- maybe an ice cream social, if the season is right for it  -- and if you could find some old company photos that depicted the life and times of the 1960's, you could blow them to poster size, frame them and use to decorate the place. Then, use the posters as door prizes or give-aways.

Stray thoughts:
Contests  = prizes = lots of participation
sponsor a contest for employees to send in old photos / mementoes of the company and display them at the reception. 
Collect items for a time capsule / box for the next 50 years
Use a 60's theme for decorating
A proclamation from somebody (the mayor, governor???) commemorating the event and acknowledging the value of the company to the community, the state ....

Early payroll ledgers
Previous events - maybe photos of the 25 year celebration 
Early photos of current employees
