The man who made history as the first African-American president is set to
make another groundbreaking move toward his legacy. Barack Obama's
presidential library will say "no thank you" to the federal government's
money.

Unlike 13 other libraries dedicated to presidents dating to Herbert Hoover,
the Obama Presidential Center will not be part of the National Archives and
Records Administration, the federal agency that operates the facilities
once they are built.
